Tencel is a lyocell material made from 100% plant-based materials and produced by the Austrian company Lenzing. Because of its natural origin, it is completely biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly option.

How sustainable is Tencel?

Natural

Tencel is made from 100% wood pulp and plant-based materials, produced through photosynthesis.

Sustainable forests

The wood and pulp are produced in forests with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for environmental responsibility. In the growing process, no pesticides or genetic manipulation is involved.

Closed loop process

The solvents and water used to make the Tencel fiber are recycled and reused for 99,8%. Compared to cotton and bamboo, less water is used to make Tencel.

No harmfull chemicals

The solvent used in the process is not acidic and has proven harmless in dermatological and toxicological tests. The remaining emissions are broken down in biological water treatment plants.

Biodegradable

Since Tencel is made from wood pulp and organic solvent, the material is 100% biodegradable.

No microplastic pollution

Tencel fibers are 100% natural. When washed, they don’t pollute the oceans with microplastics that could threaten aquatic and human life.

Renewable

Tencel fibers originate from the renewable raw material wood, created by photosynthesis.

Closed loop production process

Did you know Tencel is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics known to man?

It is made from wood pulp, and the production process is entirely organic. The organic solvents added in the process are recovered and reused in a closed-loop system. Supported by new and sustainable technologies and durable farming practices, Tencel has many ecological benefits.

This environmentally conscious process, which is also 100 percent organic, has received numerous awards, including the "European Award for the Environment" by the European Union.
