Why is white merino wool unique?

A white shirt is obvious, but white wool is not.

No sheep has one hundred percent white wool. It will always contain some grey fibres. These fine fibres all have to be sorted out. But even then, the wool is not entirely white but a bit cream-colored. It takes a lot of time and demands a lot of expertise and care to make white merino fabric.

FAQ - White Merino Wool Shirts for Men

What is the most formal white merino wool shirt?

The Oliver Merino Shirt is our most formal option, featuring a larger, stiffer collar for a more structured look. Its subtle twill texture adds a refined, elegant finish.

Is the performance of the Alex,Tristan and Oliver merino shirt the same?

The Tristan merino and Alex merino are made from 100% merino wool, offering the highest level of performance—natural odor resistance, wrinkle resistance, and excellent thermoregulation.

Tencel shares some of these benefits, though it’s slightly less effective than merino wool in terms of overall performance. In the Oliver merino shirt, we use a blend of 63% merino wool and 37% Tencel, ensuring it still outperforms any traditional cotton shirt—while achieving a brighter white and maintaining key functional advantages.

Why do you use a wool blend in the Oliver merino shirt?

This white merino wool shirt stands out for its bright, clean appearance—thanks to the addition of Tencel.

Tencel allowed us to achieve an even whiter shade than pure merino wool typically offers. It also brings natural benefits like wrinkle resistance and odor control. While the performance of 100% merino wool is still superior, this blend strikes a thoughtful balance between aesthetics and function.

The result? A crisp white merino wool shirt that still outperforms traditional cotton in comfort, breathability, and wearability.

Are the white merino shirts transparent?

The Alex merino and Tristan merino have a weight of 160 g/sm. This is lightweight, so they are more sheer than the Oliver merino shirt which has a weight of 190 g/sm.

Can I wash this merino wool shirt?

No hand wash or dry cleaning needed! Our merino wool shirts are made with Total Easy Care Merino wool, so they’re machine washable and simple to maintain. For best results, use a delicate cycle (max 1400 rpm) at 30°C with a wool-specific detergent. Don’t use bleach or fabric softener. Put it in a washbag to protect it from other garments in your wash. Hang your shirt, don’t tumble dry, and avoid direct sunlight.

For detailed care tips, check out our Merino Garment Care page.

Can the merino wool shirts still shrink after a first wash?

Like any dress shirt, our Merino wool shirts may shrink slightly—typically 1–3%. We recommend choosing a size that isn’t too tight to allow for this natural adjustment.

How do I choose the right size for the Merino wool shirts?

In our Merino shirts, we offer three different fits to ensure there’s a perfect match for every body type. Whether you’re aiming for a sharp business look or a relaxed, casual vibe—we’ve got you covered.

Please keep in mind that we use European sizing, which typically runs smaller than UK, US, or German brands.

Each product page includes a size finder button with detailed sizing information, allowing you to compare your existing garments to the corresponding Wolk piece.

Still unsure? Feel free to reach out via email or chat—we’re happy to assist you personally.

How many times can I wear this white Merino wool shirt before washing?

That depends on your activity level and how much you sweat. Merino wool naturally locks in odor at the fiber’s core, releasing it only during washing. Many of our customers comfortably wear their shirts anywhere from 3 to 5 days between washes.

With white Merino shirts, however, areas like the collar and cuffs may show signs of staining from natural body oils more quickly. For that reason, we recommend washing white shirts a bit more frequently than darker-colored ones to keep them looking fresh. If you might have stains in your collar, please check out the stain section on our garmentcare page.
